Joining the Dark Brotherhood was one big disappointment, as were the rest of the guilds. Everything happened too fast. In Morrowind and Oblivion you had to work your way to the top, in Skyrim...Do that, fetch me that, kill that and voila. They said we have unlimited quests. I thought that was great, until I started questing for the guilds. I talked to my first contact in the DB and went on murdering the target. Then I talked to my second contact, and murdered the target. And then my third contact...and the list goes on. Or had to clean a cave of bears or wolves threatening the nearby village. Or escorted someone from a cave. I don't even remember how many times I escorted someone back to their village but there were a lot. Might as well move their entire village inside the damn cave since they're so fond of caves.
I was so sad, until I summoned the Spectral Assassin and recognized that voice, then I was so happy I didn't mind continuing to murder people. The bad thing about your ghost friend is that he charges at anything hostile while you sneak around. Or maybe it's just another bug.
I remember being excited after reading in an article, before Skyrim came out, that the DB contracts would continue after the questline ended and that the game would sometimes select people that you had frequently interacted with to be your next target to keep things interesting and dynamic. And what did we get? Speak to the nameless, newly-spawned contact. Kill the equally nameless, newly spawned target. Rinse and repeat. Great! This isn't incredibly, infuriatingly disappointing at all... (Blatant sarcasm)
I liked how you had to work your way up an organization in Morrowind and Oblivion. Since all of them were horribly short in Skyrim, I thought the infinite missions will be cool and all. I was actually quite happy when I heard about it until I started doing them...I gave up after the third one.
I know, it was a huge let-down. I mean, the questline was pretty good, it was just much too short, with convenient twists of fate to put you in charge - although at least it kind of made sense with the Dark Brotherhood. Becoming leader of the Companions felt so forced, and you didn't even have to be particularly good at magic to take charge of the College of Winterhold. And being sold a line about how great the "radiant quests" were going to be, only to discover something so boring and repetitive as they were was very frustrating.
"I'm still wearing my amulet" ... LOL! Whenever I summoned Lucien, that's pretty much waht I thought. XD Eventually, I married some mage called Marcurio, considering I can't marry a damn ghost. BUT, Lucien wouldn't have that. As soon as I married him, Lucien went on a random rampage and killed Marcurio. WTF. And yes, this really happened.
